futurebabies 9 - "futurebabies @ Dust "

@ Dust, London, EC1, England 7pm Friday 8th March

Our 1st night of 2002 saw a change of venue, but no change in the futurebabies style. Believe me, we were all really nervous about our move, but it turned out to be a great night.

As some of you will know, we chose to move futurebabies on from the mucky duck for 2002. Although we had some great nights, ultimately the location and a change of ownership meant it was time to move onwards and upwards. So Dust became our new home. It looked and felt like a much nicer bar, in the heart of Clerkenwell, but would it have that futurebabies vibe? Well, yes was the answer.

We started (as we always will) rather early at 7.00pm. So well done Lefty for racing down after work to be first on the decks for the 'after-work' crew. We were a bit unsure as to what this part of the evening would be like, but actually it was great. Lefty just played a great selection of laidback house, perfect for that just-finished work time when you slowly just relax into the weekend. Plenty of nodding heads and thumbs up. Lovely.

Little Lozza continued the vibe, beginning to just slowly up the tempo as people started grooving on the dancefloor. And then Elbows took over. Moving in a slightly different direction, the man played a superb set of quality chilled breakbeat that worked really well. It mixed it up slightly, but kept the right vibe.

By the time it got to around 11.00pm the feeling was it was going really well. The place was rammed, but in a good way, so it was busy but you could dance. And everybody was getting really into it.

And so it continued for the rest of the evening. We all had another go on the decks, although that bit is a bit hazy. Dropping 'Star Guitar' by the Chems sent the place right off, and did Elbows really play 'Billie Jean' twice?

Overall, an ace night. Dust is a great venue, and we know it's going to get better and better there. All the futurebabies regulars said they loved it (thanks all of you for coming), so y'all come to next 1!
